Conductor is a substance that conducts thermal energy well.
An insulator is a substance that does not conduct thermal energy well.
Conduction is the transfer of thermal energy from one substance to another through direct contact.
Convection is the transfer of thermal energy by the movement of a liquid or a gas.
States of Matter are the physical forms in which a substance can exist, some examples are solid, liquid, gas, and a plasma.
Change of State is the conversion of a substance from one physical substance to another.
Purpose- To see if adding different temperatures of hot water affects the temperature of really cold water, when mixed together.
Hypothesis- The temperature will increase slowly as the amount of hot water increases.

Today in class on December 10th we did a lab. The purpose of this lab was to find out wheather adding ssalt to ice water changes the temperature or not. The data shows that as the salt increased the temperature decreased. This was shown at 4 minutes into the experiment. The temperature had decreased by 0.7 degrees Celcius. According to the data the hypothesis was incorrect. It was incorrect because the temperature decreased as the salt increased. The temperature of the ice water decreased as the salt increased because salt melts ice and the melted ice [articles are still slow making it colder. As salt was added the partickes speed decreased also. This explains why the temperature decreased. Four minutes into the experiment the ice began to melt. The solt was melting the ice making the temperature decrease.

The purpose of this lab was to observe how temperature changes when thermal energy is added to a liquid. After setting up our lab we lit the wick of the alcohol burner and began to watch what it did to the water. The independent variable is time, the levels are every 30 seconds, and the dependent variable is temperature. Does the temperature of water increase as the temperature of the alcohol burner increases? The answer is yes. The temperature of water increased while the alcohol burners temperature increased because the heat was rising on the bottom of the test tube and with the boiling chips in the water, the water began to boil quicker making the steam travel into the other test tube collecting water. After we were done the lab we cleaned it all up and put it back where it belongs.
1. Find the mass of the flask, valve, and washer together with air.
2. Put the pump on washer and begin to pump.
3. After pumping as much air out as you possibly can take the pump off and put the flask with the washer and valve still on it on the electronic balance.
4. After doing this a couple times make sure you are recording the data on a table.
5. After you're done all of these steps make a graph of your data.
